Is this side pose cool? Or not so much? I think I like it. The only thing--he looks so sad.

He was really a happy pup (this photo was taken for an SPCA fundraiser). But for whatever

reason, this shot seems so.....down.

Thoughts? Critiques? Ideas? Open to it all.

Thanks for looking. Please check out some of my other work.

Regards....

Excellent posing, I'd say. One should also comment on the exposure which is a:difficult with both black and white in the subject, and b:appears to be near-perfect in this shot. Good job!

Maybe he's like a lot of us and doesn't like his picture taken. A nice profile and capture of emotion in an animal. Maybe try some light from the dog's left rear as well to bring out more detail and depth. Just a thought.

Yup, it's cool. It is successful compositionally. I like how the nose is almost the same color as the background, but well defined.

Even if the dog's demeanor is different in person than what is depicted in the photo, there is still a ton of personality to be read here.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Mark, there was a fill from the left, as you can see in the buckle on the collar (it's slightly highlighted on that back side), but certainly the predominant light was from the right.

Exposure on this guy was tough, given his deep, deep, deep brown/chestnut coloring along with the white chest. He was an expressive little dude, though. I only got 2-3 usable shots out of him because he was moving about so much. Just a pup, with all the energy one would expect.

Again, thanks for the compliments AND the suggestions. That's how I learn.

I love it, it's a great profile pose, a little tension in the eye I think as if "you got one second to get that camera out of my face" kind thing going on. The sharpness and exposure are done very well. I still revisit your "woody allen" from time to time, such a great photo.......

Thanks, Tim. Yeah, that's the feeling that I get when I look at this one. "Get the camera away from me." Kinda funny.

The "woody allen" shot. I still think it's funny that you mentioned that. I really need to revisit your portfolio. Maybe later this weekend when I have a little more time.

This fella looks both camera-shy and a bit aristocratic in its poise. beautiful. You did a helluva good job with this series, Jim. Regards.
