i place high value on the ability of a scenic to transport me. your image does exactly this. i've visited cannon beach twice, and this is number three. the composition complements the contrast. the birds and the water lend just enough vitality to offset the choice of b/w. nice image!

Excellent composition, pleasant view. One question though; was the loss of deatails in shadow areas due to scanning process?

Pun intended. This is a great shot. I particularly like the dark tonal quality. Nice composition. This is photo shows why I never get tired of the Oregon Coast.

nicholas, have you been kicked in the head a few times? (if not maybe you need to be)

this is the second time you've made such a stupid comment to him about his copyright notice, it's hard to fathom too many members of the general public not having at least some understanding of the need and purpose of the copyright notice, but here on a photography forum it's pretty inexcusably ignorant. or i should say the first time when u asked the question the way u did it was ignorant, but telling him to grow up is downright obnoxious and doubly ignorant!

let me brake it down for you, image theft and misappropriation, and copyright infringements are real problems on the net and elsewhere.

there are various remedies if this occurs, but one possible way out for a violator is to claim "innocent infringement," however if the notice is placed on, or next to the image then such a claim goes out the window, and if the image appears in an ad or someplace and the notice has been removed then that further cements the willfulness factor of the infringement.

if the copyright has been REGISTERED (within 90 days of first publication) then the author has the potential penalties of not only any actual damages, but PUNITIVE damages of up to $150,000 PLUS attorney's fees!!!!!

so, if it's not clear to u now, the idea is that protecting your images with the © notice and timely registration of your images puts you in the drivers seat and generally leads to getting a settlement if it goes that far, or a quick payment of the industry standard triple fee for unauthorized usage if they cooperate once confronted and that's to your satisfaction...

another words he IS grown up and taking care of business! now YOU grow up!

However, I feel that the crop on the left hand edge is a little too severe (is it a crop or full-frame); the bigger rock/cliff(?) seems crowded by the left edge; a little more space to its left to allow it to 'breathe' would otherwise finish this image off for me. I'm still impressed, though :-)

Dreamlike picture, excellent composition, although I would like to see some more details in a sharper foreground.
