Well, I guess I'll go first. This is one photo in a series that I am

compiling of Prince Edward County in Ontario, Canada. The area has

been a popular vacation spot for over 100 years. This particular

point, on the eastern tip of the penninsula, is well known for

shipwrecks. Any and all comments are welcome.

Bruce, I really like this shot. IR film gone right ;)

I like the composition, but the leaves entering the top of the frame on the left is somewhat distracting. It's too bad that the main focus of the photograph (the bottom plant) blends in with the background so well.

I've never used IR film, so unfortunately I don't have any technical suggestions to make this good shot better... :)

Like the previous poster, I have yet to use IT film, but I like the compostion, tones are just plain excellent that seem right to me.

Also like the previous the weeds entering the frame are distracting.

I'm sorry, but I don't like this picture. The foreground occupies half of the frame and is too bright. Then, there is a vast blackness just above without any visible details. And finally we reach the central point, but, unfortunately, it is so small we can't be sure what it is.

I tend to agree that there is to much plant and not enough lighthouse. Maybe it looks better bigger but at the resolution posted it's hard to make out the lighthouse.

It may be the scan but the subject of your photo gets a bit lost. I love the look of the film you chose and think this shows very nice tones.

I have to agree with Predrag on this one. The foreground is completely lost in the weeds behind it, and as said above the encroaching weeds are distracting. I had to search for the lighthouse at first, I think you are hard pressed to call that the main subject of the print. and the large black area in the middle coupled with a sky devoid of clouds makes for an awful lot of negative space.

I think this is a good example of IR done right. I also have to agree with the other comments about composition. I do like the stark contrasts though.

Hi Bruce! I think this has some detracting points... I cannot shoot IR, but so far I've seen, the succesfull shots deserves its beautiness to a good balancing of shapes and tones on them. Here you have a foreground too dodged and the middle is too burnt and detailess. The lighthouse (?) on the background is too small, all that said IMHO.

I am a fan of IR photography generally but feel the contrast is too high in this one.I think that maybe the light was just too harsh on this particular day.The ethereal quality of IR photography seems to work best when lighting conditions are more subdued.I like the composition.I think I will dig out my old AE1 & try some IR after a 15 year lay off!Regards Pete.

Thanks for your comments and considerations, everyone! Robert, this was actually taken with Kodak IR film...not digital. As for the contrast levels in this photo, Peter hit the nail on the head when he mentioned the lighting conditions. This is how IR film reacts to strong sunlight. The contrast is not so extreme in the original print, especially the water which seems to have blocked up in the scan. (Hopefully a better scanner and more Photoshop skills are on the horizon). As for the foliage encroaching on the left, I tend to agree with John that it frames the image somewhat, but I can see how it bothers most. Thanks again!
