Her left shoulder should have the same lighting as the rest of her. It seems drawn forward, unnatural, and stands out too much. Her eyes and hair, OTOH are favored by the light.

Hef left shoudler is at an odd adgle, get her to pull it back a bit. The light is reflecting too much off the gloss lipstick.

Other than that I really like this one. I like the depth of the black background

Lighting is very well done,I agree to some degree on the lip gloss and would add that her entire face seems 'glossy'...but it is not a problem.

At first the shoulder looked normal to me as I think I was seeing the arm in my mind, but once I read the comments on it it began to look strange to me too.

I really do like this shot overall, she does not look 'posed' to me, which I assume she is, she seems to be daydreaming and content.

Yeah, I was a bit worried abuot the gloss, and didnt even notice the sholder till now.

Does anyone have any tips on how to reduce the overall reflectiveness of her skin? Would moving the lights help that any or is it a makeup thing?

I like the lighting the way it is but feel the positioning of her left shoulder is strange. I agree that if it was back a little it would help. The shine might be corrected in printing by bruning in just a little.

I, as the previous posters also think the left shoulder is at an unnatural angle (or it appears that way on film). However the lighting looks ok to me, if her left shoulder was back it would be receiving a more even amount or fade into the background (hard to tell from this end :~)

For the overall glossiness try a softer more diffuse light and or mate makeup. stay away from all gloss, glossy, shine and sparkles, they always look oily and really glossy on film under this kind of lighting.

The lighting balance between background and subject is perfect a very good contrast. The look on her face is also very nice it has a lot of character and does not look to stiff or posed.

She's a beautiful girl, but I do find myself distracted by the shoulder. Also I'm not a huge fan of the necklace; it's too bulky for my taste here. Maybe try a simple choker a bit higher up on her neck?

The shininess of her face bothers me a bit. I think that if her skin wasn't shiny, the glossiness of her lips would be okay. To reduce the shininess, have her wear foundation and then load on the powder. Just make sure that the makeup is blended at the neck, and apply a bit of powder wherever her skin is exposed, or you'll be able to tell where she put on the makeup compared to the rest of her.

Her expression here is great, and her eyes look sparkly and happy.

You get good marks for geting the expression right.

You however have not gotten it right in the pose. The shoulder look awkard 'cos the arm was position wrongly.

Lighting is passable may not be the best for her. There is a lot of shadow areas that do not seem to serve a purpose for this.

A good try but could be nettter.

The way her front shoulder is cocked forward (she had her weight on it, didn't she?) makes her body look a bit funny-shaped which kind of throws my eye off in the composition. Also there's a bit of hair over her right eyebrow that throws off the balance slightly. If this was a staged studio portrait you'd have had time to adjust those; if it was a quick snap, then not.

A solid portrait.

Great tones. I don't care much for her mouth (it looks half like a smirk), but overall I like the way her head is tilted and the light shines on her eyes. Yet another vote for the arm feeling awkward from me, btw.
