william_gracey 0 Posted August 8, 2002 Great photo! This really caught my eye, even though there were other interesting pictures on the page. Wonderfully strong composition with powerful images. Link to comment
MichaelChang 12 Posted August 8, 2002 I want to like this, but the artificial looking background prevents me. I think it looses the otherwise emotional impact. Link to comment
rick vincent 1 Posted August 10, 2002 Great photo...but lose the background. No frame is necessary here. Link to comment
photoriot 16 Posted August 11, 2002 I think the frame adds an interesting touch. (Imagine seeing it on a mid-90's laptop screen): The proportions are interesting, The shading plays well with the image (laptop screen), and it's a daring gesture, like the flinging of its subjects. Link to comment
jay_dixon 0 Posted August 11, 2002 I really like it overall, but something is very artificial around the lower half of the child, and it is distracting. The high aesthetic marks may indicate no one else even notices. Otherwise the aesthetic is wonderful. I consider the border a separate issue, and would opt for a simpler one, with such a powerful image. J. Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted August 12, 2002 What a moment! Great capture Dan. If it weren't for copyright issues I would copy Jay's posting word for word. I'm also curious about the child's legs, which I noticed right away. But the feeling of this picture is wonderful. Link to comment

peter_jones5 0 Posted August 29, 2002 I love the concept, but the cloudlike area at the bottom distracts me quite a bit. The gray outline around the child is particularly frustrating. Also, you might at least think about leveling out the ground at the bottom, if it doesn't interfere with the motion too much. Link to comment
bruce_lucas 0 Posted September 5, 2002 Nice use of silhouette - removes unnecessary static detail and leaves pure motion. I don't find the unlevel ground a problem - I think it adds to the sense of motion - a level ground would be more static. Without the cloud I think it might be too much like a carboard cutout - gives it a little sense of depth. The gray separation between the child and the cloud does distract a tiny bit. Link to comment
jimvanson 0 Posted November 24, 2002 Excellent photo, to me it shows the freedom a child has and their trust in their mother. *I* would change the frame though. Should be a Picture Of The Week! Link to comment
cspoels 0 Posted February 19, 2003 i like the idea behind this photo, the playfulness and energy ,and the reduction that the silhouette creates. i agree with the comments about visible digital alterations. your work in general would be stronger in my opinion without all the effects. this one stands out because it seems (even if altered) more natural. I know it's probably just a matter of taste, but there's my two cents. Link to comment
david_cort_s 0 Posted July 9, 2003 I wish I knew how you did it. No tienes la foto original ? me interesaria mucho :)) David Link to comment
tao 0 Posted July 12, 2003 I loved it at first sight... however the background seems to have been manipulated/PS (?) Link to comment
bryan olesen 0 Posted August 2, 2003 Change the frame? Perfect composition. Well done. Link to comment
joe_garrick 0 Posted August 27, 2003 I agree with the remarks about the frame - IMO it's too much. I'm not sure what's going on with the background behind the girl. I'm afraid I don't even understand the issue with the unlevel ground and especially the girls legs - people's legs do curve at the knee, folks. If you've ever swung a kid around like this, they almost invariably bend their legs. On balance, an excellent shot. Link to comment
