Miss Fabulous

ffresheye

i'm not clear about this system, "help" doesn't give the answers, i assume if i had said yes to commercially available, that would mean i would be contacted and negotiated with, but that was not made clear, didn't want to imply someone could use my shot for free, haha, and model release is most likely obtainable

thanks for looking people

i'm interested in whether u think this works as a "beauty" shot,

would it be out of place in a magazine? does it have a mood, a feel,

a look that u like? and what do u think of the model?

thanks in advance,

aaron

I think this shots been underrated, im not going to go into detail about image values composition. An image is either worth looking at or it isnt. All your images are worth taking the time to see, but this is the one that sticks out. In my opinion anyway

If its not already been published, i dont think it will, its got nothing to do with your ability or even the quality of the shot. For a picture editor to buy it for anything other rhan a photo mag, you need to show off more than the photographer. Magazines often publish shite because unless the photographer is famous it wont sell your mag. The styling on this shot is too strong for mags. If you want to sell it id say sell it as art. Comercial work has to appeal to the lowest common denominator. If your creative or original you have to fight make yourself ahot ticket a fashonable photographer, Do that and your flavour of the month redundent the next. Dont do it and youll never stand out, this is were luck comes into it .

Nothing makes me more angry than seeing shite published over your own work, Picture editors are *@^&* with no imagination work that sells is normaly your worst.

In short this shots to good for the magazines

Well, as soon as I saw this image, I was drawn to it. As an Art Historian, I immediately was reminded of the unique work of Rebecca Horn, and her use of feathers in her artwork. This image captures a certain undefinable mystery about it; the white face framed with deep blue feathers make for a nice contrast and balanced composition.

thanks for your comments everybody

eric, it's funny u mention her white face, it is light in this picture, and the scan made parts of it lighter still, but in fact jade is half white, 1/4 black, and 1/4 cherokee

i'm not sure u meant white in the racial sense, but i thought i would throw that out. her skin is a little darker then it looks in this shot, a gorgeous light carmal

I think the teeth showing are not bad detail at all, adding a touch of childish innosence; then she would be a forrest fairy instead of a vamp. Or maybe you could say it adds a touch of naughty. I believe the photo would work without them too, maybe making the shot a bit more ordinary. Good work- try to keep up shooting in a studio.

I agree with Oliver Prout about being artistic - too artistic to be commercially viable - a big decision whether to plump for the money in commercial photography or maintain the quality of a striclty artistic image - maybe it doesnt have to be 'either' 'or' - perhaps you could hedge your bets & produce different work for each market. I love this shot - its beautiful, rich in colour, striking, and leaves an impact. The compostition works perfectly for me - including the teeth!

Great picture, wrong title. Reading the other posts I wouldd have to agree - this is not really mid-america magazine material. The photo would work great for an album cover. A touch too sophisticated for the mass, unless its on somthing like an album cover. Overall an excellent photo - with great color and balance. Pleasing.

thanks miguel,

y is it the wrong title though? fabulous is one of her favorite words, and she is definitley fabulous... hence one of the titles i bestowed upon her...

there's nothing wrong with the title Aaron - just one person's little quirk & personal taste - I think it's a fabulous title for a fabulous picture!

I don't have any trouble imagining this on the cover of "Seventeen," "Vogue," etc. . . . or a print ad for lipstick. For me it is too contrived and the girl too pretentious to be art; but art--like beauty--is in the eye of the beholder.

hmmm, i can see u feeling the photo is contrived, but where do you come up with pretentiousness on the models part?

as for whether it's art or not, i never claimed it was art, like you say that's up to the beholder. but using contrivance and what you perceive as pretentiousness from the model as your reasons why it's not art seems rather arbitrary and obscure to me...

ps, no, i don't think we'll be seeing any shots like this on 17 anytime soon... seems odd to me that someone with such heightened senses that can see pretentiousness in this model can't distinguish between the type of clean, wholesome teen next door look and the obvious sensuality of this one... c'est la vie
