Nice one Walt. Great exposure on what must have been a very difficult situation, dealing with the dark rocks, moving water and the sun's rays. I like how my eye starts from the bottom of the stream and is rewarded when I follow it up by the gentle light casting from above. Might be one of your best considering the conditions.

OK, I've looked at your portfolio and you have FANTASTIC work. This is nice, I guess I don't give it a 7/7 because I'm a bit distracted by the hazy sky upper right. But you clearly do 7/7 stuff with great frequency, and of course my view on this image is just one man's opinion. But overall... WOW!!!

Larger view is much better, I can feel the whole atmosfere, hear the stream, feel the sunlight from above....

I really like the composition you've chosen -- the very large area of layered, sculpted rock with all the detail captured by your 6x7 is exquisite.

for commenting on this. I truly wish that we had a way of correcting our spelling mistakes in the Forums (above I meant to say your not you comments, duh!).

Any way, hi Will, too long a time since we spoke last! Yes this was a bit hard to compose, not only because of the lighting but the rocks were very slick, cold, and uncomfortable. I had to sit down low to get the POV that I wanted. I actually cropped about one-fourth from the top in this rendition. Nice to see that you are posting again; I will have to visit you pages soon. Regards.

Viewed in the large size, it feels like you could walk right into the frame. You get the warm fall feeling on the left side, but cooler blue on the right.

Even without the blur of the rushing water, this image has extreme movement and propulsion from the perspective and angle of the rocks. Excellent composition and feel of adventure in this one!

Thanks Kirk, that was exactly the effect that I was after. When I first came upon this scene I was truly impressed with the stratification of the geology, a process that looked like it had been at work here for eons. I was reminded of the lava flows that I had walked across on Hawaii a few years back and how the solid land-forms seemed to have an inherent fluidity. In this photograph, I thought the water crashing along and the POV emphasized that feeling. I liked the idea of capturing this movement or fluctuation in something that was ostensibly rigid and permanent. The division (as Dave mentioned above) into a warm left and cool right frame was an added bonus kindly provided by Nature. Take it as the Yin and Yang of this photograph. Regards.

Cool! I've never won anything before. I'll have to give you my address for you to mail me a hard copy print of this.

Excellent vision.

Walter, you must be French!

I had a Bron Couche slicing mandoline that had a defect, the retail store said I had to contact the manufacturer. They are in France and said they would replace it for free but I had to pay the shipping and handling, which was $10 morew than I had paid for the thing originally!

Thanks for the generous offer however.

As of 10 February 2008 I have resized nearly all of my on-line portfolio to smaller image files. This was done to hopefully reduce the incentive for image theft and copyright violations. I feel bad about having to do this; I enjoyed looking at the larger versions myself. The smaller sizes simply do not excite me the way the larger ones did. Regards.

Small or large, this is, of course, outstanding. The only problem I have with it is the feeling that I am going to slip and fall! I love the sunbeams filtering through the trees. It is a wonderful image, Walter.
