This is a real stunner, rock and shore shots are many but this one has the X factor which adds up to much more than the sum of its parts.

Just one dull techy question if I may! How do you avoid flare in a situation like this?

Many thanks

Simon

Simon - try moving the grad filter up/down just a little during the exposure. It sounds strange but I garantee it will greatly reduce or eliminate any flare caused by adding the grad filter.

Just kidding! ;) Marc, you can certainly add me to the long list of your fan base! Your work IS superb, no doubt about that at all!

Just one quick "newbie" question in regards to Simon's question above. Are you hand-holding the grad filter to move it up and down, or is it attached via holder?

Thanks and my sincere congratulations on a beautiful image!!! 7/7, Kristy :)

Marc, Awesome work here. Question? How do you keep your split nd filters clean?

I have a hard enough time just keeping my uv filter clean, especially when I shot beaches.

Regards,

Doug

Hey Marc,

Maybe you should forget to check that little box more often! Already it's risen to 12 of all time in landscape. Give it a little longer and it should go to first. This is, in my opinion, your best yet. Absolutely stunning.

A Perfectly inspirational coast image. I think it is your best coast image, actually. You couldn't have timed that marine layer any better! These moments are exhilirating...arent they?

Rick, thanks. Weather was so unpredictable it was ridiculous. There was wet snow falling ten minutes before I took this! It was really some shower activity behind a cold front rather than the marine layer this day. I was shooting with Jeff Jessing and Dennis Frates this evening and we all agreed it could be something really special in the early afternoon. Luckily it came through for us! When I saw the files I thought, wow!, this was the first shot I'd taken in a long time that I could really feel. One of those special shots comes along little more than a few times each year. I proceeded to print a 25x40.

Crazy for sure! Me and a friend are heading over to the coast this Sat for pics, and we might see snow as well.

I'd love to see this print someday, I bet it is amazing. Congrats dude...

Marc,

You have an incredible knack of getting perfect "WoW Factor" colour without overcooking it! I always seem to go way overboard or not quite get there, I'm sure this will come in time, but for now I'll just keep being inspired!

All the best

Paul

A delight to look at. I love the way the light picks out the detail in the rocks and water, and gives the image such depth and dimension.

Greetings from Corvallis. One of your best in my opinion! I think you captured all of the many elements perfectly. I'm glad to see that you got a 16-35MM F2.8L, I just got one as well. I'm REALLY impressed that you got a 1Ds Mark III, Majorly envious there. How's the waterproofing on that one?? ;-)

Know anyone who could use a 17-40MM? I have one for sale.

Your usual mastery of light, composition, and exposure are much in evidence here. Beauty of the world to be reveled in. The flowing water works well.
