Kirk: I can't tell you how many song lyrics I've twisted into something psychotic and unintelligible. Memory is malleable.

Alberta: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Our little incandescent enemies need to be tamed. I'm glad you like this one.

Juan Carlos: Less is more--a fine line between minimalist and simply vacant. Since I trust your opinion, I'll wholeheartedly accept your compliment.

Michael: So glad you liked this creation.

Laurent J: The nostalgia was created or should I say encouraged along by PS. The shadows were there all along. Thanks.

Donna: I can't think of a more poetic review. I will confess that I had none of those thoughts when I created this photo, but your comment fits and explains perfectly the mood I was trying to convey. My gosh, you're an eloquent one. I'm bowled over by your thoughts.

Joseph P: Kindly, thanks for the bravo.

Tolo: I appreciate your thoughts about the light/shadows and textures. Gracias.

The switch is intriguing, but what is hald concealed is even more interesting: the roughness of the wall (interior)...better to keep it hidden.

I have looked at this gem a couple of times, but one just can't keep his hand on the mouse forever, so here we go. As a painter you surely know how to turn detail like this into something desirable. Funny how I get the feeling that box being made of jelly or white chocolade - yam yam. Lovely colors and structure, and then this detail: the shadow of the right hand switch in-between the middle switch and the "dot" below it... such tiny details appeal me as icing of the cake, yam yam...

Paula: Thanks. Like most beautiful things, what is left out is often more interesting than what is revealed. Appreciated!!

Markku: I'm surprised that this offered such a visual treat. Icing and chocolate. Definitely a yummy take on the photo. Cheers.

Jeff, you have mastered the Art of raising mundane into a 'thing of beauty'.Excellent rendition.Like the composition, colors & texture.

The texture is spot on Jeff. The subject, to me, has a thousand meanings. I love the softness of the switch plate against the roughness of the wall. First thing that comes to mind, without reading all the comments is " Leave the lights on ?or off?" A comfort level. Amazing to get that out of a shot of a switch plate. Very well done and seen Jeff. It just goes to show that, along with the ability to shoot a very well done picture...the title(if you are using one)is very important. Congrats!J

Nick: Hey, thanks for your comment. I appreciate it greatly.

Andrea: When in love, it's hard to decide whether to leave the lights on or off (figuratively and sometimes literally). Mystery sometimes escapes in full light. Deep thoughts from my tired brain. Thanks much for your thoughts!

Hi Jeff,

Along with everyone else on PN, I really like this shot. Although the first thought that came to mind was the memory of a college lecture in psychology where the teacher used a similar light switch as an example in a discussion about Freudian fixations... Anyways the image is simple yet complex at the same time and the effects you have used add both to the visual appeal and the mysteriousness of the image. Well congrats on a great and very much admired image. Take Care! Katherine

Thanks so much for such a nice comment. I can see the link between fixations and fixtures. That Freud.....

talk about "cool-bizarre" not only did you coin the phrase but you live it through YOUR work! I felt quite honored that you used such a phrase to describe my work. Thank you. I am quite late in getting anything said about this photo, but I sure do like it. The plastic switch plate looks as if it has melted some, and the shadows are amazing.

The thread of comments is quite entertaining too. Yes, I like Kirk's taste in music.

I really like your term "cool-bizarre", I would love to make a shirt with that on it if it were ok by you.

Regards, Todd

You have my permission to use "cool-bizarre" on a T-shirt or any other merchandising. I assume we'll split the profit.....

Seriously, thanks for your comment. It made me smile.

Wow, a guys gotta scroll pretty far down to leave a comment on this one. It goes without saying this has a lot of things going for it. A tribute to you on the artistic ability to pull off something so emotive with a subject this mundane. Tremendous shot Jeff.

Simple, but creative image with perfect tones and contrasts. Original title foran original composition. Compliments, Jeff, Maury

beautiful textures and tones. i don't think you pushed the treatment too far. i has a great gritty feel to it, but not "chunky." my wish is that one of the switches would be in the "UP" position. doesn't matter which one, but i think it would add an interesting dynamic to the shadow pattern.

Minimalism at it's best...textures,colours, sharpness against grain...light against shadow and most of all the message that get's through...

Very good Jeff

I have a weakness for photos with strong textural elements and this one jumped right out at me. The decayed wall and strong grain on the switch-plate, the stark long shadows and earthy colors all combine to give a great mood to this image. Congrats on this one!

i always loved thos light switches and the clack they make when handled. the shadows for me symbolize a journey through time, and also transport an anscient felening. after all, you dont see these too often these days.

I am fascinated by the light in this photo. It gives me the feeling of morning light streaming in through a curtainless window at on old farm house where me and some high school friends spent more than a few Saturday nights if we happened to acquire a six pack or two. The textures and shadows make this one special but any photo that can trigger a memory or an emotion like this one does for me must be a great one.

Kent: Always a treat to see you pop up. That's me, trying to make art from the mundane. Andy Warhol with his soup cans....

Kaushik: So nice to hear from you.

Artur: I'm glad you like this dramatic (regrettably colorful?) piece.

Maurizio: I liked the title more than the photo. Thanks.

Doug: Hi. I gotta see what you've been up to...

JK: I liked the grittiness of this one, but wondered whether it was a bit too contrived. Had one of the switches been in the up position, it would've been bye-bye shadows. I suppose I could've taken two shots and blended them, but I'm lazy.

Sorin: Hey. I like that you invoked a minimalist interpretation on this one.

Tim: Thanks for such a great description. Always a pleasure.

Florian: We live in an old house where everything makes noise when you use it. I like the transportation through time idea.

Fred: If a couple six-packs were involved, I'm surprised there's a memory to evoke.... I find myself getting more nostalgic the older I get, and when something triggers old memories of simpler (less responsible) times, I jump on it, so thanks.

... is that you evoke a response but don't tell us what to feel. Lesson there for all. This is a wonderfuly simple and elegant shot ... like an etude by Chopin. I once saw (and held in my hand ... don't forget the sense of touch :)) some sketches by Watteau for a painting he did. The quickness of the line, the sureness of the touch, the ability to draw only what mattered in the composition ... that is the feeling that I get here.
