Very impressive image. I've consumed "chili" peppers all my life, but never gave any thought concerning their cultivation and processing until I encountered this image. The scenic background is a nice additional touch.

Thanks for the nice comment. Actually, these are "aji" peppers, which are similar to chili, but sweet. In some part of latin america they are also used, in powder, as natural colorant for food. I believe, though, that also chili peppers are dried the same way.

That region of central Chile (inland from La Serena, 1hr flight north from Santiago) is especially dry, and aji peppers are taken there to dry from the more humid places where they are grown (closer to the ocean). At the time of the photo, I was working on the top of one of the mountains in the background. From there the plains below appeared red due to all the peppers.

really nice Photograph, I just find myself wishing for a deep blue sky with a few white clouds to contrast with those red peppers! I like it a lot.

Thanks again for the nice comments. The construction in the center is a kind of "altar", for the worship of some local saint, or as an "ex-voto" or "memorial" for something that happened along the Panamerican road from which I took the photo. It is quite small, with a big cross on the top (to give the idea of the relative proportions in the photo).

In Chile there are of course also "chili" peppers (especially in the food, which is not, however, as hot as in Mexico ;-) but I didn't see them drying in that region.
