First of all my favorite comination of colors, for drama; are red, black, and white so that part of the image succeeds very well for me and secondly the object it's self comes alive with your treatment and the quote, it's definitely staring at us with it's scarred visage and has a story of it's own to tell.

Impressive rendering. Besides the skull fracture, your framing conveys the impression that the "face" is trying not to collapse.

I thought of the Ents from Lord of the Rings. This looks like a tree spirit and human spirit are superimposed. Very nice.
