mike_stemberg 40 Posted January 2, 2008 No wonder this was called 'The Great Comet of 2007'~ Fantastic! Link to comment
alr 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Truly wonderful image, unfortunately i missed this comet as it was very close to the horizon from my location at dusk, and i was also working so could not get outside until just after it had set :( You have captured excellent detail on the curving ion tail, and the image is also very sharp. This is a 7/7 for me, no question. Regards Alex Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted January 2, 2008 I agree with Alex. That is some trail! I can't say I ever seen one quite so flared before. How often does it pass by? Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Thank you all for your comments on this image. The details that I should have provided, are as follows:Captured on Monday 22 January 2007, with a Canon 5D and 50mm lens at f1.8 mounted on a tripod. Exposure was 10 seconds, at an ISO of 800.Photographed at 10:27pm with no Moon above horizon and well outside city limits! This was definitely the best night for observing this great comet of 2007, from my location. vuyisich 0 Posted January 3, 2008 This is an amazing photo. I cannot think of a better comet picture. Thank you for sharing, and Happy New Year. Link to comment
mark_mcdade 0 Posted January 5, 2008 Incredible shot. I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of Mr. McNaught here on Maui but it would only appear at dusk on the horizon. On one of the days you could see it during the day. I tried to get a shot but it looked like a wisp of a cloud. This is one of the best comet photos I have seen in years. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a treat. Mark Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted January 5, 2008 Wow! This one is even better, like a giant fan in the sky. Thanks for the basic data. Not hard, apparently, but beautifully done. --Lannie Link to comment
wmhoodphoto 0 Posted July 28, 2008 I'm an "AstroGuy" myself, so I prefer this kind of image without foreground distractions (although your other image is great, too!). Well done! Link to comment
quasifoto 0 Posted January 12, 2010 Hi Peter, I know you've had this photo here for quite awhile, but I just saw it and thought it was so cool! This is just fantastic! BTW, I like it with the small amount of foreground as you've captured it. Best Regards ~ Gary Link to comment
