I'm a digital rookie and I'm really struggling to learn how to use

captureNX effectively. Would you crop this photo? The only thing I

did to it was the black and white conversion. Any ideas on how to

remove that dust spot on the right upper corner? Thanks for your

opinions.

Chad,

The dust spot can be removed carefully and relatively easily (using Photoshop or something similiar) using the clone tool. After clicking on the clone tool, select a brush a bit bigger than the spot. Select a "sample" by selecting "alt/left mouse click" which will load or copy where you mouse was.

Move over the dust speck and click again and it should work...you might have to go to "edit > fade clone selection" so it blends in a bit better...also, make sure you make a copy of your layer and work on the second layer...and when the clone is selected, makes sure sample all layers is checked.

This in one way, I am sure there are others...

As far as the photo is concerned, I like it but wish some of the middle tones were lighter, just a tad.

Good show,

evan

edit after reading your text: don't know a thing about capture NX, sorry mate : )

Thanks Richard

I tried lightening it and actually thought about darkening the foreground to accentuate the sky and sun coming through the tree. It seemed like if I lighted the foreground it took away from the mood of the photo.

That strong silhouette of the tree has a lot of power in it. If you`d crop this one, even from the lower part, that would diminish the overall strength of the image. Well, at least that`s my opinion. The dust particle is annoying, I`d suggest getting rid of it - as others have allready stated. The contrast and the tones are quite ok for this kind of image.

Well seen and nicely converted. Keep on studying the aspects of the NCX and I would also suggest getting either Photoshop Elements or full version of Photoshop CS3.

C U!
