In reading the comments and critiques of your photograph, I am reminded of something that the late Monte Zucker said to me while I was being overly critical while self-critiquing one of my own portraits. He said, "Those who can't do it teach it; those who can't teach it critique it. I like it and sometimes you don't need a reason why." I got the message, you can overdo self-criticism. If it is good, just accept it and take your bows.

I believe I made a similar comment on this site. I was fortunate to have been acquainted with the late Gerhard Bakker who was known nationally and internationally for his print critiques. He had 10 rules for print judging and, in the case of your portrait, the first and last rules apply. The first rule was, "Does the print have total and immediate impact?" The last rule was, "Is the impact lasting?" A technically and compositionally perfect photograph can be perfectly boring. All of the rules can be broken and still produce an emotional response in the viewer. Sometimes we concentrate so hard on finding technical or aesthetic errors that we miss the emotion. Gerhard would have put you on the top of his list when it comes to impact, and personally, I wish I had made the portrait of your daughter.

In view of all the other comments, I have to add this note. Enjoy these kinds of great moments when you can. Girls change quickly and a cooperative model at six giving you wonderful poses may become an obnoxious grimacer at ten, spoiling your intent everytime you point a camera her way. I'm a grandfather of two who have gone through these same stages.

This is truly one of the greatest images I've seen! I am completely mesmerized!

Good focus, explosure, placement. A very nice portrait -- except: Have you seem the movie "Children of the Damned"? Look familiar? PS - Nice specular highlight on her lips and catch light in her eyes. Besides the spooky eyes, the only thing that bothers me is the blouse, smock,

cloth, jacket, whatever -- on the right bottom of photo. It is sort of bright and draws my eye to it.

Anyone who says this is a 'cute' picture needs to have their head shrunk at once.. Powerful? Shit, yeah. Cute? Noooooooooooo.
