This is a reload without changes because I like it and I think it is a fine image. Always a bit confusing when you get a fairly high number of comments indicating that the image is very appealing but an average rating of 4.5. Not complaining but in the interest of my growth hopefully folks will tell me how the image can be improved. Bad light? bad composition? Focusing not crisp enough? Boring subject matter?

Great view, I sure that different lighting/time of day would produce diferent effects but my only problem with it is that I have no sense of scale. Is the waterflow a river or a tiny trickle> I know what I imagine and sense but a figure might help. Good photo all the same, best wishes for 2008

I agree with Terry. The textures look great. A better time of day ( sunrise -sunset) would provide more dramatic results. The way you composed it looks fine, imho.

Myself, I think the lighting is terrific, and I love the sense of overwhelming size, which is brought out nicely by the absence of sky. The Alaska and Brooks ranges really don't do understatement, do they?

I do think the image could benefit from more sharpness. Terry Gilroy commented above on the lack of a sense of scale, which may have something to do with this. I get the scale okay, but I've been in this area recently. With better sharpness, I think the trees in the foreground valley would be obvious, and this would give plenty of scale.

Thanks for the very constructive comments. I believe that I have made giant strides in my photography and especially technically since 2006 when I took these images. I did not know the nuances of reducing the size of an image and employing various PS techniques to sharpen an image. I believe that the original JPEG is quite sharp but this image does not convey it. Now I shoot either RAW or Raw and jpeg - at that time I only shot jpeg. There is also the justified rational that if the image here at PN is too sharp other sites steal them and display them for sale which has happened to me and a few others at PN. A catch 22.

Not sure if I followed how or why you would have received any criticism on this ... it's another beauty. The contrast of the well-defined, color-rich and contrasty foreground against the antithesis background is stunning.
