I like this. It catches your eye and makes you want to look closer. It is not quite identifiable without description and I see that as a positive. Making an eyecatching print from otherwise day to day items is an accomplishment I admire. Great work on this one.

Great composition & colors... My wish would be a tad sharper for this jpeg, and maybe a bit more shadows, a stronger lighting contrast... I like it very much... and love your title, too. Best regards.

You're right. Mottled lighting from tree cover. no tripod; leaning over w/ 20mm. came back another time . . too much rust . . rats!

The somewhat mottled lighting doesn't bother me. I don't think all photos need to look like they were shot in the studio. I think the fact that it was a "found" object and not a studio setup makes me like it even more.

I like all the strong geometric shapes (circles, lines, angles) that stand out and contrast with the biological shapes of the dead leaves. And the color is great.

There is so much information in this photo. Wraped in a tight composition. Even though I knew from the first glance this is a picture of a piano it took ma a pleasurable while to digest all the details, the lines, the way they twist and run, like liquid metal. The round shapes and the vegetation leafs that are a surprise because no one expects to find them inside a piano. So there is an explosive combination of a mechanical instrument, with fragments of nature, VERY interesting. I understand that you this photo was a lucky result of a hunt for subject, I wish it would have come my way.

LOVELY

Thanks Michael. I'm looking closely at all aspects of sharpness to make sure it's not in the slides. I didn't do much w/ USM in my earlier uploads.

This image has a story - I like it a lot and have submitted it for local competitions - four times !! - but without success. And yet it will appear on the cover of the Piano Technicians Journal - THE national trade publication - this coming month (so the local camera club judges can #$&^%^&*$$%)

Stupendous. Carl, screw the camera club judges, they know how to judge snapshots, and that's about as far as they go. This is art. Blown away by the richness of color in this photograph.

You've elevated junk into the stratosphere of Beauty. The tones of decay mingle melodiously with the darker areas and those taut lines. Ditto sharpness, but in real life it must be just fine to get the cover you mention.

It's beautiful, Carl; heartiest congratulations.

At least, this week will be able to talk about Photoshop techniques... That's Carl's specialty after all...:-))

(just kidding, just kidding...:-)

It's a very nice image, Carl. Congrats ! I'll be back later to find something wrong... Not too sure yet what, besides what I already wrote above, but I'll find something...or else I'll make it up...:-)

This one puzzled me at first, even though I've seen inside a lot of pianos. The idea of a discarded piano would never have crossed my mind as a subject--but it's a great one, and you've done a fine job with it. Perhaps we will have a peaceful week.

I like the fact that there are autumn leaves arranged upon the discarded piano. Adds to the timeless feel. That everything returns to nature.

Nice one.

Congratulations on POW.

In my monitor it's a bit unfocused and the lighting dull. But I say this with all precautions and would like to assert whether it is inherent to the document or my settings. The technical quality of your work makes my skeptic of my appreciation.

So before the week goes one I think it would be good to clarify this two points.

This image drew me in immediately because I have always been fascinated by derelict objects. Have you considered more re-visits to record the ongoing process of its decay?

Congratulations Carl! I like an awful lot about this photo. You have arranged the geometric shapes so well in the frame, and they seem to fit very comfortably indeed. Add to this the muted red and golds, the combination of manmade/natural textures, and the concept of making art from a beautiful instrument in the process of decay, and you have a wonderful feast for the eyes. I prefer the way it is without too much contrast or over saturation, mainly because it is a found object rather than a studio set-up. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful work Carl! I feel that the competitions that you entered are geared toward the average rather than the exceptional. An abstract work is often underappreciated and misunderstood. Lovely composition.

10 of 10!

I dont personally find this image very attractive. I feel that overall it is too dull. More to the point though, I find that when looking at this image my mind is struggling to interpret it, turn it around and reconfigure it. It is not a peaceful image to look at and i don't believe that the intent of teh photograph is to cause this reaction in me either. Perahps that is just my mind however as everyone else seems generally to like the image. I would be interested to hear if anyone else gets that feeling from looking at this.

Wonderful image Carl, abstract, yet I know what I'm looking at it.This would make a fine cover for a piano publication, it embodies so much information about the piano, and at the same time leaves a lot of unanswered questions, like, why in the hell would someone leave this instrument on the side of the road?

Cheers Carl, you are insightful and inspirational.
