Hi. At first I was not sure about this photo. But then, I started to spend some time looking at it, meaning that something is happening here and personaly I think this photo is actualy quite expressive. The first feeling was that the pose is not too natural, but it makes the composition works, and then if looked for a bit longer, it looks more like a P&S photo.

Just a personal opinion : the background on the top left is interesting for the DOF, but the vertical cut with the very bright wall makes the whole photo a bit distracting for me. I'm wondering if it may not worked better in front of either the wall or the fence. And if you have the opportunity to do it, it may perhaps be interesting to try different kind of contrast levels.

Thanks very much, Laurent, for your comments. I like shooting portraits and finding the right background is always the difficult part for me. 1. sometimes do not even have the opportunity, and 2. with a G9, I need far away backgound to be able to make them soft (even with aperture set ot the lowest of 2.8). Cheers..

Hi Patrick. You are welcome. I also love portraits, and yes it is very difficult to get nice ones. The first thing to do as in any art from is to work as much as possible. Now with digital technology, this part has been made easier and cheaper.

And then of course, the background is always difficult to get right when we see a good shot opportunity, and we focus on the main subject without thinking too much about what is behind. But then, i think that more and more, we become aware about the photo as a whole, and almost always, we just need to make one little side step to completely change the composition
