gum prints, cyanotypes and vandykes Two portraits (Gum print)
Gum print. In this ancient technique, you mix Potassium Dichromate (an UV sensitive chemical) with Gum arabic and watercolour paint, brush it on watercolour paper, let it dry, then expose it as a contact print in the open shade for 20-30 minutes, then "develop" it in cold water for 15 more minutes. Here, two 6x9 negatives made with an antique camera were printed on a single piece of paper. Uncropped. Uploaded July 25, 2002.
