johnz 0 Posted December 24, 2007 This little girl was watching me as I was taking some shot of the parade. Her curiosity got the best of me and I took this of her. Any opinions on how to make this better or corrections I can make would be appreciated. Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted December 24, 2007 The girl looks very perky into the camera. The photo is well composed. Her skin is somewhat grainy. It may be from strong lighting of a dark shot or from over-sharpening or it is a strong enlargement of a small part of the original photo. Karl Link to comment
John Peri 1,033 Posted December 24, 2007 It's strange how kids will fix on us sometimes. I always wonder what goes on in their mind .. There is no simple answer as to what a portrait should represent, but for me, it is essentiel that a moment be captured in the life of the subject and that a part of their personality is apparent. The rest is purely technical, and some people IMHO unjustly give more importance to that than to the content of the picture. Likewise with many subjects in fact .. If I opened the thumbnail it is because the photo drew my attention and that I identify as much with the charming curiosity of the gaze as I do with the wish to record it by the photographer. Sure the eyes could be better lit, sure many things, but the most important criterium for me has been fulfilled. A wonderful moment captured and a look that will not leave you or us for some time to come. Loved the picture, thank you. Link to comment
johnz 0 Posted December 27, 2007 Karl: Thank you for your comment. I do agree that the shot is a bit grainy - and you are right that it was due to the enlargement. In the future I'll have to work on that aspect of the picture. John: What a wonderful comment - I find the innocence of children such fun to try and capture - haven't been doing it long but the ones I have be able to get I do like. Your observation is greatly appreciated. Link to comment

ljk 0 Posted January 4, 2008 Hi John...you did well in this capture..sweet innocent gaze, and from a stranger! What I would do with this is burn in the background some to place more emphasis on her luminous face... Link to comment
