Very fine shot. These are the things that i like a lot. If you would ask some critique for this i would suggest to crop the ground from the bottom and the straight line part from the top, that would make this even more messier... :) Just a thought.

Thanks Tero for the comment. I really like the idea of your crop. It would certainly make it a much more dynamic image.

I'll have to play with it myself for a while. I did like how the inclusion of a touch of land and the line of the siding at the top had made the image more static and firmly grounded. But, I might have over-looked the benefits of a more dynamic (engaging?) crop in trying to keep the mood of this image connected with my other recent images.

Hi Carlos, thanks for your opinion, I do value it.

I can certainly see why both you and Tero prefer the cropped version. It has MUCH more immediate impact and more dynamism within its compositional structure. However, that wasn't what I was after here.

As you can see, this photo is part of a folder here called "Waiting". I was drawn to this and these other subjects due to their state of being in seeming disuse or abandonment. This is all despite the fact that they most definitely are not abandoned and this area is always changing – these very metal bins where hacked up and bundled for scrap with a day or two of this shot.

Anyways, because of the greater context and the intentions I had, I have fully settled on the more static crop I posted first. I understand that it is NOT as immediately compelling. But, that's alright, I think it has more to say in the longer term as a more slowly experienced image with the fuller context of the snow, the rusting siding, and the overall position.

Ian – thanks’ for the explanation – it does make sense.

Sometimes I find it difficult to carrying on about work, breaking it down, analyzing it, don’t much turn me on, and often just rely on the old gut feeling - hence the economy of my comment.

I’d be hard pressed to clearly describe why I favor one over the other but I can be certain that if I was given a choice as to which of the images I’d put on my wall, I wouldn’t hesitate. I’d also play with it some; square crop, shift the P.O.V clock wise, and so on. . . The shot grows on you – the more you consider it the cooler it gets.

Be well.
