photis santamouris 23 Posted December 20, 2007 This a resubmission. It has been captured in Pisoderi,Florina region,1.650m altitude,on a very cold winter afternoon. She told me she was living alone in her village and she badly needed some thin dry branches to start her fire at home. Life is very hard in these remote places, especially in winter. Best wishes for Christmas . Link to comment
aginbyte 0 Posted December 20, 2007 ... just in case we don't have the imagination to find something to be thankful for, you have supplied it. Amazing that in this day and age, people exist in this state of want. It is a wonderful shot and reminder to us all that we are not that far from such a world ourselves. Best wishes for the holidays, my friend. Link to comment

photis santamouris 23 Posted December 20, 2007 This image is posted in order to give a slightly "different" point of view of Christmas days and to contrast with various "Santa Clauses" we see submitted on PN these days.Viewing it larger will reveal that the old lady gives a slight smile at the camera, because she had already noticed she was being photographed. stevenseelig 5 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi PhoS. I am glad you made her smile a bit, despite her hardship. Images like this and others help remind those of us that are more fortunate in life to count our blessings and to offer assistance where we are able. Happy Holidays. Have a safe and productive New Year. Steven Link to comment
jhl 0 Posted December 22, 2007 Hi Phos, Great capture. This old lady most definitely does not know what luxury is about and will most certainly with a lot of fond memories be able to sit for a long time to tell you all her life's experiences, which can be written down in a book.Definitely the type of person that will be able to survive should there be another World War.Her face seems to radiate kindness, strength & humbleness which nowadays is very rare. Thank you for sharing with us all.Regards from Johanna in South Africa Link to comment
gatzelis 1 Posted December 22, 2007 Perfect evening light. About the subject, at last she is ... coming home. The same framing with her going on Easter. The curved street lets me wonder for our life. Link to comment
