this is a stunning image, i love the poses and expressions you've captured here. I'm curious about the painted with light technique you used < does this mean you left the shutter open and used a handheld light source which you moved over the subjects?

I have never seen anything more beautiful than a pregnant woman. And the softness of her curves compared to the other women is just amazing. Ur work is inspirational!!!

There seem to be a religious undertone in this image...Or it could just be because it seem to have references in classical paintings.

This picture deserves it to be POW. Congratulations!

Was there any digital manipulation? Since I never used this technique I don't know how it looks like if a model moves a little bit during exposure.

Cheers!

This is photography at its best. Creative placement of models, and creative use of light. Not a static image...very deep in thought and mood. Congratulations on POW. One of the best I have seen.

- see "Raft of Medusa" at http://www.artchive.com/artchive/G/gericault/raft_of_the_medusa.jpg.html

This is so unbelievably inspirational, as the rest of your work is...

What I find amazing in this particular image, beyond the vision itself, is the meticulous adjustment of the pose for each of your models. So tasteful and gracious. The bottom left girl's wonderful expression staring at the camera, the 2 legs of her neighbours in a silent duet, the symmetry of the entire composition, while movement still runs accross the frame...

Then, the light, of course... The tones, too...

Classical paintings like the Raft of Medusa and similar ones have obviously graced you with their greatness.

Welcome to Photo.net's Theodore Gericault...:-)

I saw this photo a few days ago and I'm glad to see it selected as POW. Thanks also for your article on painting with light. It's been over a year since I've experimented with that technique and the work on your site has inspired me to try it again.

your work is simply amazing. i love it! geez, i never thought i could be so in love with photography this way. when i saw the art work, i thought that life could be so meaningful. it gave me a whole new perspective in life and in women. seeing society as a matriarchal society. i could say that you are really very good! But just one thing, your pic is somewhat pixelated. is it because of the scanning process? did you intend to overdo the shadows beneath the women? well, all in all your artwork is very good.

i just a have a few more questions, i have a canon rebel G, can i also use it to do this effect? its really creative. im 16 years old and so interested with photography. i really hope to hear from you. please email me if you can.. aneenoh@yahoo.com

more power to you! thank you for your artwork! it inspired me a lot.

very good but you may want to try toning down the bright spot over the pregnant model's left hand because it may be distracting. perhaps the model's belly should be the brightest area. (greta garbo always had her shots set up so her face was the brightest area in the frame.)

I agree about that bright spot...but, other than that, this is just a terrific composition and one very unique image. We have a newborn ourselves and I struggled for 9 months to take more creative images during my wife's pregnancy. it's hard to avoid cliches (woman holding tummy, etc., etc.) This shot blows the cliches away. the nod to classical sculpture, the evocative, almost religious aspect, the unexpected poses, the painting, etc., are just fabulous. what a worthy image!

Which actually is a faliore on my part! I COULD erase it in PS, but chose not to... Felt like cheating.. Actually I see it like a dim sun or a moon... so - I think I'll leave it there.
