Colorado: East Face Gore Range

fred_j._lord

This was one of my first images with the Fuji GSW. It was shot on color negative film and scanned on a drum scanner. It was the first snow of the season in 2000.

Wondeful sky and color reproduction.

I wonder how was the original not cropped.

It's a lot of time that I'm thinking of the Fuji GSW 6x9 as an alternative camera to carry with me...

This image is cropped to about one-third its original height. The clouds were less dense toward the zenith and the lower ground was too busy, I thought. Here is the full image as taken at 6cm x 9cm frame size.

A truly stunning image. I'll have to say, though, I prefer the uncropped version.

Thanks for sharing this one!

I like this picture! Also thanks for your explanation of the cropping, it accentuates the snow on the mountains. This picture just stands out; congratulations!

This is a lovely image. The only comment would be its a little dark in the left hand corner, boverall great light and sky.

The image needed croping and you called it right. I like the dark area on the left. It counterpoints the rest of the image. Which for me makes the image work as their is no main place for the eye to focus on except the dark tones moving to the lighter ones on the right.

I agree about the dark right corner, but didnt realize it before I read the comments because of its beauty! Great job here. It seems like this picture was taken facing north, and the only reason their is a shadow is because it is late in the day, behind a hill. Am I correct and if I am please go back and reshoot! Even though your folder has such richness I still crave more...

This is a sunrise image facing the Gore Range which runs roughly North-South. In this image the camera was facing the city of Vail on the other side of the mountains. The camera was set up on Ute Pass which is about nine miles north of Silverthorne. If you look at a map, you'll see the exact angle which was probably about 255° from true north or 105° west relative to true north.

Thanks for the comments, they're much appreciated. You should see this image printed out to a 40" width. There is much more detail in the left hand shadows.

Incidentally, there is a ton of snow up there right now (January, 2003) but not as much as we'd like!
