At Ross Castle, Killarney, Ireland, 2007. Shot with Nikon D80 and kit

zoom lens, then processed with DXO Optics Pro 4.51 for lens

distortion, chromatic aberration, color vibrancy, and to bring out

dark areas.

Any thoughts appreciated.

David,

I'm not quite as technically inclined as you are so I'll limit my comments to visual impressions. The only big downside to this image for me is the dull sky which is one of the uncontrolable hazards of travel photography. The angles of the boats and the road draw the eye toward the bridge but I'm not sure the road adds to the aethetics of the composition. By moving to the right a few steps you might have been able to come up with a composition that avoided the overcast sky and the road. (see attached crop)

With respect to you comment on my photo:

The composition seems very nice. No keystoning in the verticals(I have no idea what this means). The brick colors seem off, like they should be more tan (I suppose the bricks have gotten a little bleached after 7 centuries in the desert sun). There seems to be a blueish cast (Could it have been my polarizer?). Is the white balance off (At the time I took this picture in 2005, I had only the vaguest idea about what white balance was; shot with everything on autosettings in those days)? Was that intentional (Most of what I do is accidental)?

Cheers,

Gunga Jim
