godfather 0 Posted December 11, 2007 What a great looking foreground you got on this. This sunsetting gives a great shades for those weeds? The "Alone" barn is positioned well for the middle of this wide landscape. I can only imagine how it feels to stand in the middle of that kind of emptiness, i could spend a whole day (weeks, moths) just sitting there and staring for the emptiness. Ps. I have a Bob Dylan playing on the stereos now and it fits perfectly for this kind of a photo.Best regards Tero. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted December 11, 2007 I'm eager to see the new film, "I'm Not Here." Dylan is lodged deep in my DNA. So is walking, standing, sitting in the middle of this kind of emptiness. Raised near Los Angeles, I found this area and chose it. Thanks, Tero - I always love hearing from you. "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go." Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted December 11, 2007 My kind of landscaping... Though, I might have looked for a greater separation between the shack and the hill in the background. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks for the comment, Peter. I was hiding some road signs behind the building and avoiding distant buildings just out of this frame to the far right. I try to convey a lost America because the fact is, it's harder and harder to find expanses of virgin land without fences and power lines and road signs and the like. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted December 11, 2007 "new D300"... thanks, just rub it in!! :-) Seriously, a beautiful capture! Link to comment

Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 15, 2007 That is one fine light-capturing machine you've got there. I'm glad it wound up in the hands of someone with eyes connected to brain. I like this a lot. I wonder if perhaps that structure couldn't get just a BIT more rules-of-thirdsy over to the left. That would open up some more room on the right and even further tell the tale of lonesome space in which it's sitting. I'm really struck by the tonal qualities, here. Great. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted December 15, 2007 Thanks for the kind words! I can only hope my eye and brain will continue to merit such a camera. As for the framing, I agree, and you're not the first to suggest it. It would have been my choice...BUT (Oh how I hate to ruin this pastoral scene for everyone here!) in the right distance there are some buildings I wanted to avoid. You can just see the first if you look closely. Secondly, there were some work trucks parked this side of the hill just out of the left frame. Finally, there was a road sign catching the sun's glare, which I placed right behind the building. So, yes, I agree, but I did all that I could. Now, as for your creating a new adjective, "rules-of-thirdsy", well, English teacher says we'll have to talk about that next. Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted August 17, 2008 Quiet morning in Vegas so doing what I love best, catching up on PN. This shot captured my attention. The " Big Empty " and why is that building there and what's its history. That's what I like about your photography, makes me think as well as visualize. Hope your looking for a gallery in New Mexico because you have some awesome shots going on here...RAY Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted August 17, 2008 Your timing's pretty good: I just brought my first 15 prints home from Santa Fe and they're ready to hang in a one-man show at my wife's gallery here, Studio C, but first the five largest will hang in our region's pre-eminent show/sale in Raton in September. Sizes range from artist's proofs at 6x9 to 10x15s to 16x24s to 20x30s, all with wide white mattes and black wood frames. This image comes in at 16x24 (25x33 framed). I've listed and shown them all in a presentation available from my main page here. Thanks for coming by, Ray. Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted August 17, 2008 All Right! I knew it was coming. Your photographs are a real slice of the real west and shouldn't be limited to just us here at Photo.net.. Please let me know how the shows turn out...RAY Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted August 18, 2008 Cool, Tim. Get a shot or two of the exhibit hanging - it would be interesting to see your stuff down down off the pixel-net, and and turn into something tangible. I'm sure a collection of it on the wall will be very well received. Good news! Link to comment
