mg 0 Posted July 24, 2002 1) Take a picture of a father kissing his daughter.2) Take a picture of a floor.3) Process the film or load the digital files in the computer.4) Open Photoshop, and edge out the people.5) Touch up the silhouettes roughly and clone here and there what's not right.6) Upload to Photo.net.Question: did anyone believe that this was not generated in PS ? Then, did anyone notice how irrealistic this was ? Did anyone see the poor cloning at the edges of the shadows, on the floor in front, bottom left of the little girl ?If the PS part would be well done, at least, maybe it would work, but this is badly done. When did we last see a shadow which wasn't touching the real object or person ? :-)I have no problem with any photoshop usage, but it should be well done. It's a technique, just like any other one, and if it fails, the image fails. If this wasn't meant to be realistic, then why not simply draw the silhouettes on a piece of white paper ?I find particularly ridiculous that an image like this gets 9 / 9 average. A cute idea is all it takes, I guess... Link to comment
studio 48 0 Posted July 24, 2002 Mark, thanks for your comment. It is one photograph with the feet and legs cloned out. Direct sunlight on the pavement at about 10 or 11am, I faced them and then rotated it 180 degrees. There are others in the folder which are about the same, with no cloning, only cropping. Yes I realize the cloning of the feet was not a good job, but I never expected it to be selected for rating, let alone like this. I was looking for comments to see if it would be a good idea to take farther. Maybe have them standing on plexiglass so the structure casts no shadow. The whole series can be seen here: http://imageevent.com/stay_or_go/shadowplay;jsessionid=zmy74cru21 Most have been cropped, some have been cloned. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted July 24, 2002 Thanks for your explanation. I wasn't even sure that these were shadows in the first place... At least they were, and you have been very honest about it. Fair enough. My opinion: keep the idea, execute is beautifully. You don't need to clone the real feet off. You might need a better background and a nice light. The idea is good enough to make it a great image. But a magician can't show his stricks, or the magic stops...:-) Regards. Link to comment
min_kim 0 Posted July 24, 2002 should have focused on cleaner clone stamping. Instead of making their feet black, try cloning from another part of the shadow. Also, set it at 100%. But i love the idea Link to comment
darren 0 Posted July 24, 2002 Marc: "When did we last see a shadow which wasn't touching the real object or person ? :-)" Haven't you ever seen the shadow of someone jumping? Trampolines are great to get shots similar to this one - you need a fast shutter speed and an energetic kid, of course. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted July 25, 2002 Well, all right, Darren, you win... :-) It didn't look as if these 2 people could be jumping in this position...:-)) Regards. Link to comment
studio 48 0 Posted July 26, 2002 Todd, 2 reasons, because it is cute and because it is somewhat original. Welcome to photo net, enjoy what I am sure is to be a short stay! Link to comment
