Caleb's farm visit

This is the first photo I've ever uploaded to the site and submitted

for a critique, so hammer away! I took this while my family and I were

visiting relatives who live on a farm. I shot a bunch of pictures of

the kids, but kept coming back to this one having the most

"potential". I shot it in color with my Canon Digital Rebel xti. I

used Photoshop to manipulate the channels, and then the levels. I did

one final contrast adjustment at the end. I prefer to manipulate in

photoshop rather than shooting in B & W mode on the camera.

Hi Chris. The picture is good in the sense that bw tones are very good, the expression on the child's face ia a good capture. However I find the background a little cluttered and the tree at the back looks like jutting out of the boy's head. Needs better composition or blurring of the background!

Nice tones and contrast, Chris, and I like the candid capture as well. Camera isn't quite level, so watch that. The tree in the background is a little busy, too.
