Hammer Through

Using ISO 100 speed film i'd expected the hammer to be a bit blurry. I was pleasantly supprised how it came out.

I generally do not like "messed about with" photographs, but in this case I do think that it may work in this photograph which unhappily has a rather messy background.

It is a shame that you did not have a better vantage point for this well caught action shot.

Unfortunatly the incongrous scene at the back places your photograph firmly in America, and does not afford the viewer the oppertunity to place the hammer-thrower potentially in some dreamy Scottish glen.

The background provides context but I find it too distracting despite your PS attempt to tone it down.

I think I'd like to se more of the expression and stress on the highland gamers face.

I do love the way you have almost magically caught the hammer in the image. The shot have been almost useless without it.

How is he in color and the background in B&W? Good expression, but it's a little lost in the fact that he doesn't look like he's doing anything besides standing there.

The b/w technique used here is done in photoshop called desaturation. About your second comment; maybe you didn't see the hammer in the top right cornor.
