Hello all! Thanks for taking the time to look and comment on this

image, as this was a scary one for me to take! There is no guard

rail, it's a 1000ft drop over the edge, and although it's an

extremely beautiful overlook, it is not for the faint of heart!

Enjoy :)

Spectacular view and very well captured Kristy. The colors are fantastic, and the image is well composed, and has great dof. Very well done. Cheers.

somehow the lighting doesn't seem realistic to me. did you separately add the sky? you're facing the west, the sun seems to be setting and yet the horseshoe bend is lit neatly. what am I missing here?

I want to say that I really appreciate all of your comments because every comment allows me to learn more and that is why I am here at PN!

Christos, you are very observant. I cropped this image to a smaller version, and didn't notice the horizon until you mentioned it. Good call, I will work on that a little more. Thanks for your kind words. :)

Anush, this shot was taken as the sun slipped beneath the horizon, but there was a tremendous amount of light left highlighting this whole area. In fact, the sky you see here is the original sky (meaning I didn't add another sky to this photo). However, the purple tones were so light that the sky looked washed out since the camera did not pick them up. I did crop out most of the sky to bring the eye more towards the "Bend" and I enhanced the tones in PS to bring out more of the purple color. Thanks for your question. :)

There is point and shot and then there is art - this is definately ART. I was just in Page and tried this shot. I was there midday trying to get it fully lit. Did not turn out nearly as good as yours. I was told by a photographer in page that the realy best photos of the Bend are at mid day with an overcast. After seeing your I think sunset can give you both good light and wonderful skies. Next time I go to Page I will try this. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Dave, thank you for such a warm response to this image! This was an amazing place and I can't wait to go back again.

You know, I was told the same thing--go midday to catch everything. So, this particular day was supposed to be the "scouting day" to see what I needed to do or bring to maximize a "midday shot." At the last minute I decided to take my camera "just in case" and I'm glad I did!

Sunset was tricky because of the onset of shadows gaining ground in the back canyons, but definitely worth it if you have the patience to wait for the light! I think to trick is to catch it just as the glare of the sun disappears from view and wait for that "magic" light--then of course add a bit of luck on top too!

Thanks again for your comments. I'm so happy you stopped by. Take care, Kristy :)
