Sunset, Ayr, Scotload

richard_kho

Location - a small town on the south western coast of Scotland called Ayr. The picture was taken just as the sun disappeared over the horizon, casting purple shadow all over the beach. Film - Kodak Ektachrome 100. Equipment - Nikon 801F on a tripod with Sigma 24mm fitted with graduated neutral filter over the sky.

i have never had the pleasure of viewing a lilac-purple sunset before. in my opinion, this is a beautiful photo which i would like nothing better than to see framed and hanging in my bedroom. well done.

Nice use of lines to lead the eye. Rich detail in foreground. Color cast says cool evening.

Thanks to all for you encouraging comments.

I remember the wind being very strong as I had to weigh down my small lightweight tripod with my camera bag. The tide was very low revealing all the lovely patterns on the sand. I didn't use any coloured filter so it was a purple sunset alright!

Just love the purple hue! Curious, what does the graduated neutral filter do (if you can't tell, I'm new to photograhy, but trying to learn).

Keep up the great work,

Brian
