Sand Creek, West Michigan

davidroossien

Mostly beach trees falling down at a bend in the creek. Snake grass in the woods in the distance. I arrived about an hour before sunrise and waited for the light. A large buck walked onto the high creek bank behind me. It stood there for a few minutes looking down on me, then heard the sound of people talking in the distance and ran away.

I had to put this image side-by-side to the close-up image and then quickly flip back and forth between them in order to determine that I preferred this one most. I like the extra color in the foreground and the feeling of depth in the distance. This is really a nice image, and I don't even see your name supper-imposed in it anywhere?!?

Thanks for your comments! After showing these two slides around at work, people seemed to like this better. The other has some redeeming qualities--more detail on the bottom of the creek and more background emphasis, but the direct sunlight in this made for a more striking foreground. The log reflection framing the bottom just seemed like the thing to do.

David, I like the composition, the reflection of the log "frames" the image well. I would adjust the levels a bit, though (suggestion attached). What do you think ? Peter

Yes, another vote for this one from me. In addition to the better light, I think the composition here has more space to move around in. The centrally placed tree in the closer composition seems to impede that a bit for me. I think I might agree that some burning in can work well too.

Thanks for your comments! I agree that it was too light and lacked some richness. Peter--you did a nice job. I made some updates and like it better now.
