nancy_reynolds 0 Posted July 16, 2002 I very much like the subject and composition of this image, but feel like it's missing something and I'm trying to figure out what it is. Maybe it's that the colors in the shadowed areas are a bit muddy.Maybe it could benefit from a slight increase in contrast, or perhaps another film would have made a difference. I love the wavy red rock in the foreground leading they eye back to the sunlit yellow rock. At first I was thinking a polarizer might help with contrast, but then realized that a) it may have been too late in the day to have been of much use and b)you may have been using one already as there appears to be a bit of vignetting in the corners. What do other folks think? Link to comment
feng_lin 0 Posted July 16, 2002 I think there are two possible ways to improve this shot: one is to use a graduated ND filter (preferred), and the other is to exposed for the moutains instead of the sky, i.e., add another half a stop or so of exposure (in that case, you may want to include less sky). As it is, the foreground colors are too muted and the brightness of the sky and clouds is too dominant. Link to comment
markskelly 0 Posted July 17, 2002 Thanks for the replies. I agree that this isn't quite resolved. I've been playing around a bit in photoshop to get it to this point. the foreground was really murky and I lightened the yellow rock a bit. I might add a bit of saturation to the foreground and play with the contrast. It was shot through a circular polarizer, but it really didn't do much. Next time I'll have a graduated ND with me. Guest Guest Posted July 18, 2002 I like the shot very much. The only problem with it is that there is not much depth on the left side, probably because it's in the shadows. Link to comment
fred_j._lord 0 Posted July 24, 2002 I want so much to see more of the rock in the foreground! The color and clarity are so nice... I just want to see more! Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted April 6, 2003 Good job on the colors. I might crop off that left side a bit. Good clouds here!! :) Link to comment
