What does this sculpture evoke within? I was drawn to its age (300 yrs), its potential symbolic meaning, and its sense of solitude in the quiet lower Manhattan cemetary. What do you think?

I blurred the background to take the focus off the bland lower East

Side buildings in the background, but otherwise, the picture is

completely intact. What do you think of the photograph, overall?

I find this really interesting, you've done the right thing blurring the background. Well lighted, there's good details on the lights and on the shadows. It's ok like it's now, I would only try to play around with it, again with contrast (more), for one version; for other version I would try to get some "high key" effect. All of that to see what comes out...

I would have loved more detail myself, but this sculpture is over 300 yrs old, and it appears to be made of a soft, easily eroding stone. It looks like sandstone judging by its porosity, and considering the extremes of weather we have in New York City, I'm surprised it held up as well as it did! Thanks again for the comments. :)

I like the shot, nice composition and I agree with your decision to blur the background and keep the emphisis on the statue. I also agree with the comments above about the contrast, it feels too soft. Basically it's a good shot, but with a little more work in photoshop you could bring up the contrast and bring out the detail more. :)

I think that you have done good by softening the background here. I would not have been able to tell if it's from New York or Florence. I keep wondering what color the statue is? Can different Photoshop "filters" give separate interpretations of this image? How does this photograph fair with higher contrast? If the image was not evocative I would not wonder these things.
