SABRE WASP (Rhyssa persuasoria)

finimage

Set on Super Macro.Rhyssa persuasoria is one of the largest ichneumon wasps in the UK. It can be encountered in many Shropshire woodlands, where females are often seen "drilling" into timber - as in this photograph. The wasp drills deep into wood, to lay it's eggs on larvae of Wood-Wasps that live in timber. The larvae of the ichneumon parasitise the Wood-Wasp larvae.
