Excellent capture. I like that the background gives a hint to his personality or lifestyle, but isn't distracting. It even took me a minute to realized that I had realized this. A more obvious observation, but still subtle, is the two sides of his expression. The left is relaxed and smilling, as if greeting a good friend, and the right is darker (the background helps with this) and we see more of his inner thoughts, although both expression have depth. If you were to cut the photo down the middle of his face, you would have two very different portraits, especially in terms of mood.
