I caught this guy on a car at the mall. The yellow in his arms and

legs are a bit over-exposed, and I wish his hat were a little more in

focus. Please let me know what you think. All comments are welcome,

good or bad. Take care.

This photograph does not strike any emotion in me. Aesthetically, the composition is nice, but nothing out of the ordinary; it is properly framed and the background is appropriately out of focus. But the subject matter doesn't strike me as humorous, or serious, or ??; more like silly.

Technically, there doesn't seem to be enough DOF overall. Parts of the main subject are not in focus (namely the hat), while the hands are a bit washed out (hard sun??).

As far as originality? I feel that the subject doesn't require much thought to see the photo. Just frame and shoot whatever's around. I think perhaps a higher vantage point, looking down the antenna, while still allowing the eyes to be seen, would be more exciting, more original.

So- 5 for aesthetics due to not enough dof and some washout

and- 5 for originality due to "normal"-ness of the situation

just my opinion

Sorry, I didn't read your original comment on pointing out the depth of field problem, as well as the overexposure on the hands, before placing my comment.

Susan - It's a little plastic hotdog (I assume from some kind of restaurant) that was attached to a car antenna. I saw it as I was walking through a mall parking lot.

Fun. I love how you posted this under portraits. I'm sure it gets under the skin of the photo-snob elitists. (i.e. "Portrait of What, Exactly?")

I spoke too soon: this is a rather unusual, engaging "portrait" that's well exposed and dramatically lit. I would give it : orginality 7

Aesthetic 6.

I noticed that certain make allot of comments about *other* peoples images, very judgemental too, with nothing to show of their own portfolio! It's easy to judge when you have nothing hanging out there...

Ah yes! A wonderful expression captured on film. The look of surprise, or is it possibly fear, on the face of the subject is quite remarkable, along with the tip of the hat.

Sorry - I couldn't help myself. This was the best laugh I've had all day.
