hopsage 0 Posted October 6, 2007 Sweet, sweet capture, Jeff. I really like the selective focus on the eyes and wisps of hair. I think I'd crop the left side to a roughly square format, though, up to where the girl's hair begins. That might make a stronger diagnonal than you want, however. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 6, 2007 This is a photo of my daugher, three weeks shy of her third birthday. The baby in her is disappearing quickly, hence the idea of her melting into the background. John, I think your instincts were dead-on. My original was cropped just as you suggested. I'm including a sepia-toned version of that shot for comparison. Link to comment
castelli 0 Posted October 6, 2007 Dreaming image. It evokes the beauty of innocence. Beautiful! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 6, 2007 Disappearing from one stage and flourishing in another that's very painful but wondeful moment for a parents. Having three grow kids I know how wondeful this is and I would do anything for them and others with no regrets. Like you said before, "they gave us a home"....love this one, her expression is all what you said.Regards. Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted October 6, 2007 I love the soft focus on her face and the heavy blur in the background. The background colors seem to enhance her skin tones. Seems like a determined child, working hard on some improtant project. I missed the title on this when I first commented, Sorry about that. This is a very appropriate interpretation. In fact, I have to try to scan some older shots to come up with my version. I like this theme very much. Congrats. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted October 7, 2007 Excellent portrait,Jeff. The image has a dream-like quality due to the softness.I was bit intrigued by the caption, till I read your comment. Water of the river is never the same.I would prefer the caption to be 'Baby Disappearing' or Baby blossoming into girl. I prefer this version more than your sepia version. Our love to Gabi.So cute. adan1 0 Posted October 7, 2007 A chapter closes and another one opens, such is the continuity of life. Beautiful rendition with a softness that imparts Gabi's face with an angelic glow. She radiates peace. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 7, 2007 Although this was for the Song Title Club, I could have easily entitled this "An Angelic Moment" because these moments of peacefulness last only briefly. This was an experiment in selective blurring. Does anyone own a Lensbaby? I'm putting this on my Christmas list, but am wondering if it would be worth the expense. Claudio: Thanks. This time of innocence is truly a miracle. Kazimiera: Congrats on launching your three. I've been told that they grow up fast, and I'm starting to believe it. Bob: I'm glad you picked up the determination. She was choosing between pumpkins. An important task. Hope you are well. A.K. I appreciate your thoughts. The river passing by is a nice image to hold. It helps to make letting go and embracing what is new much easier. Margaret: Thanks always for your sweet spirit. Adan: I always chuckle when I hear Gabi described as a peaceful angel. Of my two, she's the intense one. After arguing with her several hours yesterday regarding naptime, I still believed she was an angel, but I wasn't sure what "side" she was on. Joseph: It's good to hear a thumbs up from someone who both loves and is good at taking portraits. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted October 7, 2007 Lovely soft focus makes this an exremely attractive portrait, Jeff. Excellent color and composition. Link to comment
bartimeus1 0 Posted October 7, 2007 What an adorable image of her! As you mentioned, the time we get to loan our babies in our life is really only a loan. They grow up and take control of their own life and destiny. But as long as they are here, we must have joy in our heart from them! This is one such prizeworthy image of joy. You are also right, that suggested cropping really improves this, even though this is allready so fine and beautiful image. Alpo Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted October 7, 2007 An interesting & unusual interpretation, Jeff. Love the softness enfolding her. Such a pretty girl. Link to comment
mcclure 0 Posted October 7, 2007 I love the lost in thought expression. Color, soft-focus and DOF are great. Best, John Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted October 7, 2007 Very good idea Jeff.Another great family portrait! I agree with the square cropping. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 7, 2007 Roger: The soft focus was digitally applied, given the limitations of my lens. But I think it worked out okay. I appreciate your thoughts. Alpo: Kids are amazing loans from God, aren't they? Well, mutual investments. I tried the square crop again a decided to leave it as is. Cherlyn: Thanks. You are able to do so many styles successfully, I always appreciate your thoughts. John: Thanks always. This was taken out in Weston at an apple farm. 'Tis the season. Joseph: I've been trying to keep the family portraits to a minimum, lately, but couldn't resist this one. This STC stuff is really challenging. Katherine: Thanks for your enthusiasm. It made me smile. Mehmet: You've had such fantastic portraits lately. I appreciate your thoughts. Link to comment
photis santamouris 23 Posted October 8, 2007 Dreamlike.I hope Noah won't be jealous, because he has already had his share.I'm sure she's growing up fast,it's really obvious in her expression. There are times you want them to remain babies forever, other times you get anxious for them to grow faster, and sometimes you feel, like me and my son, that they'll never "grow up".
