Do you like this or the B&W better? They are side by side in this

folder. Thanks. f/4 1/200th iso 100, speedlight bounced off of

foamcore.

I do not have much expertise shooting portraits, but for what it is worth - here we go:

-what is the main subject in the photo ? In this case, the hat appears to steal the show. The face is kind of lost between bright hat and clothing.

-I think that in this particular case larger DOF would work better. There isn't much background to speak of, and as a consequence the unsharpness in areas outside DOF creates impression that the whole image is not sharp.
