I'm not so shure about the black bg Gerhard but that's a matter of taste I think. I do think there's too much room at the top and bottom. Perhaps shooting or cropping a horizontal would bring out the Pelicans better.

I love the dark background although I do agree with a landscape crop rather than portrait. The dark background is fantastic and the birds really "pop" against it! Nice job!
