dseltzer 0 Posted September 17, 2007 I'm really curious to know what others think of this. I like the linesand contrasts, and I think the light is OK, but I'm afraid the priestwalking away is probably too subtle. It would also be really helpfulif you could comment on this as a B&W, as I haven't done much of itand want to get better. Thanks so much for looking! Link to comment
sheridaphibbs 0 Posted September 17, 2007 I love the pic as a black and white. I hope you don't mind, I played around with it, and came up with a different crop (to better depict your title) and added more drama to the sky. Link to comment
mr. sullen 0 Posted September 17, 2007 I don't know the first thing about B&W photography but I do like this photo. I think the problem with the priest is that he is nearly off frame, and underexposed. My eye is drawn up and to the left towards the brighter part of the frame of the church. Mabey PS the collar thing and blast it out along with lightining him up a little. I didn't know priests wore shorts, wierd. Anyway, I still like it though. Maybe also if more people were heading into the church and the priest was the only one heading out that might help too. Well good luck and keep on shooting baby, Shay. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted September 17, 2007 The tones are wonderful. It's a fine b&w. The church just pops. I don't mind the foreground, though it could be lightened a tad. Regards... Link to comment
dseltzer 0 Posted September 17, 2007 I so appreciate all the comments... very helpful. Sherida, I certainly don't mind that you worked on this shot and I like what you did. I'd left the left side there for balance, but it obviously isn't necessary and cropping it draws attention to the priest. Thank you! Shay, No question the eye is drawn away from the priest, and I think it would be better if he is lightened. I'll try it and maybe post it in my portfolio. Thanks for taking the time to give me good ideas. Joseph, I'm so glad you like the pic. I'll play with the foreground, though I'm not quite sure what you'd consider foreground... I mean where's it start? Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement! David Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted September 18, 2007 David, I took another look, and you're question is valid. By foreground I'm simply referring to the priest, but after studying it more closely, I don't mind the shadows on him. It's clear that he was entering a shadowy area, plus his face was shadowed by his hat. You can tinker with it, but I don't think it's necessary at all. In fact, his hat is a significant part of the image. It has almost the same lovely glow as the church. Great shot. 6/6. Regards... Link to comment
aginbyte 0 Posted March 17, 2008 ... the nice thing about the shot is the utter casualness of everyone in it, and of the buildings on the church square as well. To cut the house on the left is a mistake, because its lines feed directly to the open door of the church. Link to comment
dseltzer 0 Posted March 17, 2008 ... about cutting out the house, but did so just to see how it'd work. I see what you mean about the lines leading to the open door, and that had been my original thought. Hadn't really thought specifically about the casualness of the people, so you've helped me be aware of an important element of this shot. Thank you! Link to comment
