Santa Monica Spin #2

patrick_d_smith

An extra long exposure and a little light still in the sky allowed the scene to become evenly lit compared to an image I had made a few minute earlier. I may upload that one later. The wheel spun about 5 times during this exposure. You only get about 2-3 minutes with this light to make this sort of image. All you can do is hope that the wheel is spinning at the right rate at the right time! You have to sink the tripod in and allow the lens to get to within 1 foot of the highest water to get extra detail in the sand when the water moves out. Risky but worth it!Details: 38 second exposure @F16 - No filters

Nice work, Patrick. I tried something similar with carousels (my Experimental folder). I like shots like these, where natural and artificial light is well combined. Indeed there is a narrow window of time when you can do this. Best wishes. Peter
