Exposed

patrick_d_smith

Isla Mujeres is a small island just a few miles northeast of Cancun, Mexico. In October of 2005, Hurrican Wilma scored a direct hit on this island with category 5 winds gusting over 200 miles per hour. Many beaches were stripped of their sand, revealing old features not seen in many years, like this old pier on the north side of the island. I was told that before the hurricane, these pilings were under many feet of sand and that the beach extended well past the last one seen here. Details: 30 second exposure @F22 with nd grad 0.9

Thanks for your comments!

I was very fortunate for the sun to set right at the end of the pier. This only happens in May and July. The moon will be small because this is a wide angle shot. Zooming in spoils the smooth water effect.

First of all, thank you for providing info of scene and exposure. That is the way we all can learn something; sharing information and thoughts.

You have done this well. Water is very David Burdeny - like, but your exposure allows more detail in sky. You have used soft grad., but there is still some edge visible on water. Not bad at all, IMO that brings even more mood and personality to scene, than if water was milky "white" all the way to horizont. I am eager to see what kind of BW do you make of this, if you do.

I have not visited your portfolio yet, but this photo is really promising. Not so big raw materials, but great result. No ratings, since I do not them anymore. My respect instead. a s l a
