Guest Guest Posted September 10, 2007 "My eyes went back and forth a few times, trying to figure out what was going on . . ."Linda, I do know what you mean by wanting a natural flow and it strikes me how differently we can each look at the same photo. The variety of reactions to photos teaches me almost as much as the variety of photos themselves. So much depends on what we each think there is to get out of a particular image. To me, just what you said above is one of the joys here. Get my eye wandering and my mind wondering and I'm happy. Link to comment
Todd Kowalski 2 Posted September 11, 2007 Jeff, This sure is a powerful image! The tonal values are tremendous and the subject is timeless. Good wood! Best Regards, Todd Link to comment
kenrick 0 Posted September 11, 2007 Very dramatic cloud formation Jeff. Excellent in B&W with some interesting patterns and textures in the wooden fence and the surrounding space. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 11, 2007 Now this one says it all and from the multitude of comments it seems you have hit a common chord. I haven't read the remarks yet but will after I finish my own. My feeling right away was one of hope. Normally a fence, right at eye level and with churning, unsettled clouds beyond would send out a clear warning of darkness and danger ahead. But this almost claustrophobic view of the barrier is transformed by that one single word. This doesn't seem like some artistic parlor trick but a genuine moment of affirmation. At least I will take it as such. Link to comment
kirk d 0 Posted September 11, 2007 If the image didn't have a title attached, I would say it is a great composition of lines and shapes and tones; very appealing and intrigueing to look at. Fine art if you will allowing to think of things that would differ from person to person. With the title, of course thoughts would vary from person to person but they would be orchestrated more by the artist's title. So, that being the case, here are my thoughts on bargaining with God. They are derived from having been in bargaining positions several times with who I think is God. I've interpreted his ominious threats, be it weather related or physical harm, as a message to change the course I'm on and wrong things I may be doing. Whether I mean it or not, I always say YES GOD, I'll do what you want as long as you spare me this time!! Please, YES, YES, anything you say! Stop smoking, Yes, more considerate to my neighbor, Yes, pray more, Yes... Kirk Link to comment
mattloeber 0 Posted September 13, 2007 Jeff i really love the way this shot challenges my eye to stay in one place! I keep wanting to look at the sky, but the fence draws me in! The word YES takes this photo to some different level of thought! YES to what! As always, a pleasure to view your thought provoking work! Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted September 20, 2007 I didn't get a chance to thank you all personally, so I'll express appreciation collectively for such deep, thoughtful comments on this photo. This was a personal photo, posted to express that constant debate that most of us have with the universe about those events small and large that seem unfair. Sometimes, despite debate and rage, the universe acts against us. I was surprised that no one noticed the "no" in the clouds, but focused on the "yes" on the fence. I think this speaks volumes about the hopeful, positive attitude of those who commented. Everyone gravitated toward the affirmative, and your comments actually made this a more hopeful photo in the end for me. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. It's interesting that no one saw the "no" in the sky. Anyhow.... Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 2, 2008 This photo got my attention with the simplicity of it and yet is is powerful. The simple "yes", the "storm clouds" in the background, the black and white photo shot, the open field where ones see a touch of the dry grasses through the fence give me the message that someone is saying "yes" to the much needed rains that will soon be here. This is the way I see the photo and I really like it! I like photos that give powerful messages. I need to put more of that in my photos. You have an eye for details. Link to comment
