jayme 0 Posted September 3, 2007 I love the composition of this image. It works very well, not the usual, well seen. My only concern is that the horizon is barely discernible. It seems a tad over-exposed. I would gently adjust the exposure to allow for a little more of the horizon to be noticed, then mask out the subjects (Man & Wall) leaving them alone. They are perfectly exposed. A difficult shot & interesting. A solid 6/6. Easier to show than tell, here's what I had in mind. Hope you don't mind. Link to comment
francescorizzato 0 Posted September 3, 2007 The overexposed horizon in my opinion gives a sense of mistery to the photo. As to say: who knows what there is out there? Very good! Link to comment
johne37179 29 Posted September 3, 2007 Hi Jayme. What attracted me to this picture was the lack of horizon. I would go in the other direction and make it invisible. There is real whimsy in a breakwater that runs into the sky... Not knowing where the water ends and the sky begins is a wonderful play on the mind. Link to comment
gdanmitchell 0 Posted September 4, 2007 I was surprised to see the alternate version the emphasizes the horizon. For me, a good part of what makes your photo work is precisely the lack of a dividing line between the water and the sky - this adds to the mystical feeling of the photograph. Compositionally, also, I think the photograph is stronger without the additional clear horizontal line of the horizon, instead allowing the image to simply disappear amorphously into the distance. I vote for keeping it the way it is. :-) Dan Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted September 4, 2007 Yeap, I agree what drew me to the image was the lack of an horizon, but I just can't help myself. I want one :) I know it's there & being eternally nearsighted, I want to see it :) But I do understand what you all are saying. With or without it it's still a wonderful image :) Link to comment
