Glacier National Park has always been one of my favorite places to shoot. The unique geography of this region can produce some stunning light under the right condition&such was the case on the morning I took this photograph. Low humidity combined with a clear horizon and just the right amount of cloud cover produced one of the most stunning sunrises I have seen.

This is certainly a more unique perspective of St. Mary Lake. The sharpness and rich color of the foreground boulders gets you started, the transparent lake water takes you further, the alpenglow on Going to the Sun mtn pulls you upward and finally the outrageous clouds finish you off. Very good indeed. All the best to you Jay,

What makes this one stand apart from the usual beautiful mountain/lake/sunrise/sunset photo (and I love the genre, so that's not a negative comment) is the touch of sunlight on the tiptop of the mountain.

A beautiful touch to a beautiful photo.

Jay, I really like the vertical format for this composition. I agree with Mark on the interesting and unique perspective. Wonderful clouds and colors. Interesting that the smoke from all of the fires really doesn't seem evident in this shot. Had it rained during the night? I was in Glacier about a week before you, last week in July, and it was pretty hazy at times from the smoke from nearby fires. Nice work, Jay. Cheers! Chris

On this particular day it was rather windy (which it is on most days) due to an approaching storm which prevented the smoke from settling in one place. I will post a slow shutter speed shot later to see just how fast the clouds were moving. On our last day, when the wind died down, it got very very hazy and you could smell the smoke in part of the park.

Outstanding landscape, I love the awesome light and colors, and your composition with perfect flow of lines from LL to UR. I guess you didnt fix the 17-40`s barrel intentionally, and you were right because it adds to the impression of depth and space

Thanks for the comments. It is hard to tell if there is barrel distrotion in this senario where there are not geometric lines. The sky was spectacular...One of the best sunrises I have witnessed.
