If rating low please give comment so I can improve. I'm getting tired

of getting one or two low ratings with no reason.

A lovely shot, an attractive lady with an interesting expression but the lighter background is very distracting for me. I find my eyes drawn to the very light area over her left shoulder - some of which could be cropped off. Hope this helps. Regards Terry

I would not rate this image low - if I used the ratings (I stopped some time back - because they are used incorectly by so many others) - but, if this were my image, I would adjust the saturation up, and soften the skin just a little bit. As for the crop, if you have an original that is uncropped, I'd like to see (more) of the necklace included - I think it would add to the strength of the overall shot.

Just my humble opinion. Greetings from South Carolina.

g'day mate, perhaps with this one a portrait orientation rather than landscape might have been a better choice. The light is quite flat making it difficult to produce a striking image. cluttered background and less than ideal expression on the models face is also a detractor, im assuming she was unaware of you shooting and also you were making the most of the circumstances you were faced with. this is often a good thing with candid portraits, but id bang your camera on burst so you can snap numerous images in rapid succession. more to pick through but may provide you with some better shots. try moving around the subject to alter whats in the background, and if the lens allows, dont crop so tight, that way you allow for quick movements and dont cut off body parts or interesting features. you can always crop back in photoshop or whatever you use later. dont be put off by bad ratings. keep opening the shutter. peace, Tristan, Ballarat, Australia.

Thanks for the comments. You guys nailed it. I was shooting into a tent that was poorly lit around ropes, bridesmaids, poles, and every possible thing. So the crop is how it is. As far as the saturation for some reason every time I upload a picture to photo.net it kills my saturation. Actually I almost didn't upload it because of the necklace and also I can't tell if her right eye is in the plane of focus and that bothered me. As far as the expression I definitely see what you mean, I actually like it because of that. I think she was lighting a candle which is in the next few pictures I took but theres a rope in the way. Thanks again for all the input.
