Very useful technique I learned from Samir. Go to the 'select' menu and choose 'color range' in the pull down menu at the top choose 'highlights' then feather this selection by a large amount. For full size images use 100-250 pixels for this size I used 30 or so. Then copy and paste this to a new layer and change the blending mode to 'multiply'. You may need to adjust the opacity to fine tune the effect. I use this all the time on egret shots to increase the contrast in the feathers. I've started using Lightroom to do my raw conversions and the 'clarity' adjustment gives a similar effect.

Another fine capture. Great detail and color. How are you getting these smooth and mono colored BG. Regards

Thanks Anthony, I have to credit the lens for the bokeh. Purchased a Canon 400mm/4 DO IS-- and it is worth every penny I paid for it. In this case, the bush is out in the open, background is a stand of very tall Northern Pines at least 50 feet behind. Light and dark areas is shade and light on the pines.

Excellent photo/capture Mary Fran. The slight change that Leroy did does define the feathers just so slightly. Printing this would probably have the same effect.

Again, well done!
