Timing is everything, when shooting a landscape, some forethought needs to go into it, and some planning. The first thing to plan is the time of day you want to shoot, and the weather conditions. The blown out sky here wrecks the entire mood of the shot. Because there is nothing in the sky, the reflection also gives us nothing but white light which is horrible for a landscape. The second aspect is the composition. Centered composition like this one rarely works for a professional photographer, and when it does work, it works because of other objects that are in the 1/3 spots. Use days like this one to scout out areas that have potential given the right atmospheric conditions, then wait for mother nature to deliver the right sky before shooting landscapes.
