younes 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Very nice light! Those are some pretty clouds. I think though that the grad line is too visible here, may be some selective dodging or levels adjustment could alleviate that. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Hey there, JC, how are you doing? Nice early-evening light you've caught here at Powell. Amazing how far the lake level has dropped over the past few years of drought. That bath-tub ring has to be 40-50 feet in the air now. A 6/6 anon. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
lennartmaschmeyer 0 Posted August 19, 2007 Hey Juan Carlos, good to see new pictures from you. Great mood and strong composition on this one. And that's not to forget the beautiful colours. regards, Lennart Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Fabulous beauty on this scene. I love especially the impression the lower part of that rock were a heating element causing the sky and surroundings get the warm colors. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Just an FYI, the strong coloration difference in the butte in the FG and the rocks in the BG is actually the result of the falling lake level in Lake Powell. When the lake was more full, the very porous Navajo Sandstone is saturated and becomes strongly bleached over time. Currently, Lake Powell has 12.4 million acre-feet of water in it, or 51% of capacity. At full pool, this reservoir holds nearly 26 million acre-feet, and would be nearly 100 feet higher. The effects of the long-term drought in the American southwest are clearly evident in JC's shot here. Cheers! Chris Link to comment

bretsch 0 Posted August 22, 2007 Younes, Chris, Lennart, Markky, and Tolo; I want to thank you all for your attention and comments. Chris you are absolutely right, the water levels are extremely low, and even though this makes for great pictures, I can't help but to think about the "not so nice? repercussions. I just hope that conditions improve in the near future. To any one that hasn't been to this part of the planet, I really recommend it, here you can briefly gaze at the immensity of time.
