Pregnancy is an interesting time to shoot a portrait. Looks like single source flash and the hair could have been styled differently on the models left side. The navel is a little distracting and could have been adjusted in PS. Overall a very intimate and personal shot.

One of the more beautiful pregnant women ever! Very natural feeling and comfortable! I love the contrast in this shot with her skin and the darkness!! Well done!!

This guy Craig misses the whole point of the photograph!!!! Photoshop her navel are you kidding me, thats the best part of the photo!!! Style her hair different, is this guy crazy! Good photos DON'T NEED PHOTOSHOP PEOPLE!!!, and this is a good photo, and if you listen to Craig you'll ruin it!! Perfect like it is!!!

I agree. She and the shot are beautiful as is. I would think if you fixed everything about her appearance all nice and neat, it would make the shot seem contrived. A woman at this stage is not going to look like a supermodel as well she shouldn't. She looks very lovely. db

This photo was taken hours before birth! LITERALLY! We had put this photo shoot off for SOOO LONG that when she actually started having contractions we PANICKED and rushed the shoot. This photo was taken in-between 8-10 minute contractions just before rushing off to the Delivery room.

Thanks for the GREAT words of encouragement!

Terrific exactly as it is, which is precisely why it's terrific. I am chronically full of suggestions for minor changes, so here is my suggestion for this image. Leave it exactly as it is because what you have captured here is wonderful and would only be lessened by mucking with it.

I agree with all of Daniel Barrington's comments except one. She does look like a supermodel, if a pregnant one. I think the direct flash has a certain anti-studio artistic flare. I like the pose of her head and her hair. I have the strange feeling that 4 out of 5 cameras would be grabbed and tossed in similar situations. She definitely gets extra credit. Wonderfully done. Dan

I think Dan has touched on an integral point as regards the lighting. The anti studio aspect of the direct flask and the fall off to darkness creates a sense of urgency. Even before I read that contractions had begun I had this feeling. In my original post I considered using the analogy of a deer caught in the headlights and then decide not to risk this being misinterpreted. How about a dear in the headlights. BTW I think Craig's thoughts are well thought out and valid, just not applicable to this shot.

Rob, your remarks absolutely changed how I viewed this image. Between contractions...! She must be incredible to put up with you like that. I am now so moved by the image and the backstory that I have absolutely no critique at all, just incredible. thanks to the others who saw this image more clearly then I the first time.

She is a real WARRIOR, she is tough as nails and she reminds me of it periodically through her actions. I kept delaying to get a good one and she was tolerant but a little feisty also. You've got to love a multi-dimensional person who is willing to try and fight through anything. Thanks for coming back and viewing it again through another perspective. You are the man Craig

This shot is truly beautiful! The pregnancy and the navel are beautiful as well as natural. Her hair is exactly the way it should be. Photoshop the bellybutton? Why don't you photoshop Craig! Awesome black and white, keep up the awesome shots AND the awesome model(s). I love it!
